Cartographer was originally released on June 15, 1998 with the release of the Exodus Magic The Gathering edition. This card has since been reprinted in 2 sets, with 2 artists contributing to the various card designs.
With the release of the Odyssey version of Cartographer on September 21, 2001, The flavortext on Cartographer was modified to read: "Finding the way once is luck. Finding the way twice takes a good map."
