Bloodfire Colossus was originally released on June 2001 with the release of the Apocalypse Magic The Gathering edition. This card has since been reprinted in 3 sets, with the artistry all being drawn by the same artist.

With the release of the Ninth Edition version of Bloodfire Colossus on July 29, 2005, The flavortext on Bloodfire Colossus was modified to read: It took all its strength to contain the fire within.
