  • Beast of Burden was originally released on December 1999 with the release of the Promo Cards Magic The Gathering edition. This card has since been reprinted in 5 sets, with 2 artists contributing to the various card designs.
    With the release of the Urza's Legacy version of Beast of Burden on February 1999, 2 changes were made to the card. They include:
    • The spelltype of Beast of Burden was changed from Artifact Creature — Golem to Artifact Creature - Golem
    • The text on Beast of Burden was altered to say: Beast of Burden's power and toughness are each equal to the number of creatures in play.
    With the release of the Seventh Edition version of Beast of Burden on April 2, 2001, The flavortext on Beast of Burden was modified to read: The heavier the load, the harder it works.
    With the release of the Eighth Edition version of Beast of Burden on July 28, 2003, The flavortext on Beast of Burden was modified to read: The heavier the load, the harder it works.
    With the release of the Ninth Edition version of Beast of Burden on July 29, 2005, The flavortext on Beast of Burden was modified to read: Though it was built as an instrument of labor, it wasn't long before it became an instrument of war.
