Balance of Power was originally released on May 1, 1997 with the release of the Portal Magic The Gathering edition. This card has since been reprinted in 3 sets, with 2 artists contributing to the various card designs.
With the release of the Eighth Edition version of Balance of Power on July 28, 2003, The flavortext on Balance of Power was modified to read: "To empty your mind is to fill your grave." —Lat-Nam teaching
