Ancestral Memories was originally released on October 1996 with the release of the Mirage Magic The Gathering edition. This card has since been reprinted in 4 sets, with 3 artists contributing to the various card designs.
With the release of the Portal version of Ancestral Memories on May 1, 1997, The flavortext on Ancestral Memories was removed.
With the release of the Seventh Edition version of Ancestral Memories on April 2, 2001, The flavortext on Ancestral Memories was modified to read: "It's a poor sort of memory that only works backwards." —Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass
