Abbey Gargoyles was originally released on October 1995 with the release of the Homelands Magic The Gathering edition. This card has since been reprinted in 2 sets, with the artistry all being drawn by the same artist.

With the release of the Fifth Edition version of Abbey Gargoyles on March 1997, The flavortext on Abbey Gargoyles was modified to read: "They don't move, do they?" "Only for the wrong sort of people." "Are we the wrong sort of people?"
